This is in my office. My father has tons of this stuff. And a full set still in the box of the 1976 Freedom Train. Unused, still in the box

If you live in Baton Rouge area, you might want to check in the Baton Rouge Model Railroad club which actually is in Jackson, La. They have an impressive HO layout along with Lionell, O Scale, N Scale and a few others. They do an open house the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. It is free to attend. They have a really nice outdoor G Scale layout as well. My dad is a member and he really enjoys it plus my kids love to go with him as well.
I'm in Shreveport, but I found where a show comes to our convention center once a year. Already marked it on my iphone calendar.
I found this video. This guy is in Blanchard just outside of Shreveport. This is amazing...

I wish I knew more about them. I know a good bit but not as much as he did. He passed away 2 months ago so I guess I'll inherit half of these model trains, transformers, track, etc

At least you admit it. I'm still somewhat in denial.
It's great being able to buy $300 worth of crap and not having to cut the lawn for months to do it.
ETA: And it is awesome. Slot cars are now obsolete. The track click together magnetically. The cars learn the track through scanning and are controlled through blue-tooth or wireless.

I had two Lionel 027 gauge sets when I was a kid. One was a "Wabash Cannonball" steam engine that had typical cars - caboose, Conrail box car, Mobil oil tanker - and a couple of magnetically controlled action cars - a mail car and a log hauler that would dump the logs. The second was a futuristic looking setup with a diesel electric engine and almost military looking cars - radar, mobile missile launcher, etc. I remember that parts of the cars glowed in the dark.
I am thinking that both are still stored in my mom's basement, and when our house is finished, I want to get the older one and figure out how to do it under the Christmas tree.
My dad actually had a very nice O gauge set when he was growing up, but it was given away well before I came along. I would love to have that.
