my father in law was big into this stuff. of course, he worked on the railroad.
my best friend is also big into it. half of his garage is now his "train room".
ETA: 3 year bump?

Unfortunately when I was growing up, the cool kids didn't play with kids who had train sets.

Almost time to break out the Christmas train and set up Christmas Village. With a new kitten this year, I fear for the safety of the village and the North Pole Central. Our last cat used to run off with the little pine trees.

The quality of older American Flyer and Lionel trains is amazing. I'll acquire a set from the 1920's or 30's that has not been operated in 30-40 years. Put some oil and grease on it, and 90% of the time it is off and running.
The trim is almost always brass, nickel, or copper.

I inherited a 1949 Lionel set in O Gauge and my daughter gave me a Hogwarts Express a couple of years back. The cars and accessories in the 1949 set are something else…the milk car with the little cans, the log car that dumps the logs.

In middle school I had a "N" scale setup on a 4x8 board. Made the landscape using paper mache and would spend my yard cutting money on houses, buildings, trees, etc..

Pretty cool.
I had an HO and n gauge set when I was little.
My dad fabricated a platform to slide under my bed. It was later used for slotless racers.
