Why don't these kids go to trial with these charges? Can't try them all if they are giving that many out every home game

I got like 3 through high school. Oddly never got one in college. They roll off your record when you hit 21

I can tell you this..I got one in 2002 and it does not come off your record unless you file for expungement which also costs money. I would just do the pretrial.

You can't expunge a conviction or guilty plea.

To the OP, it's a fricking MIP. Pay it and be done. Nobody is going to give a shite about that. You might need that pre-trial diversion down the road.

Honestly I don't know how to feel about that.

No need to feel anything. Dead sibling. shite happens and I'm sure he doesn't give a shite that I used him for a fake ID.

And when the cops hit the door at Murphy's and turned the lights on to check ID's my 16 year old arse just kept sipping my .25 draft beer at the bar. No worries.

Not to go on a tangent but honestly I couldn't imagine losing a sibling. He's a d bag with a count wife but if something ever happened, I'd probably lose my shite. Sorry for your loss.

What a bitch. Just take your MIP like a man and pay up. Community Service is the bitch part of all this though. Hell it was a right of passage for my friends to at least get one alcohol charge on their record.

I wouldn't worry about a MIP on my record

Apply to sit for the Bar with more than one on your record and you might run into trouble. I admitted to one and they wanted a full explanation and the actual disposition from the judge.

I had a DUI and didn't hear a thing about it. I guess times have changed. Now had I not disclosed it, like a few idiots I know, and they found it...that's a different story.

Cops are all over the place on LSU gamedays specifically looking for MIPs. I've never seen it so bad on any other campus.

Yeah, people give our cops on gameday hell about the beer in a Solo Cup, but they tend not to hand out MIPs or anything. They sure as shite will make you pour out your beer if you're just open with a case, but they don't give that much of a damn about catching kids with booze there.

But one funny story that happened this past weekend at A&M is the Phi Delts had the pledges guarding about $500 worth of booze for their tent, and then the pledges all stupidly decide to leave, with their booze completely unguarded. Cops see it and confiscate it. Some pledge better have been hauling arse to get as much booze as humanely possible or else they were all totally fricked come Sunday.

That's absolute BS that they can take your license away for 180 days, or even send you to jail for six months.

What the frick is happening to this country? Back when I was that age, it was a $250 charge and that's really it. Is an 18 year old drinking really worth taking their license away for 180 days? Drinking and driving, sure, but that's total bullshite. Everyone who is 18 drinks in at least some form.

During character & fitness a friend of mine admitted to one drunk in public and one DWI (for which he used an 894 and it was set aside). The Supreme Court ruled that he couldn't DRINK for 5 years, has to attend weekly AA classes and submit to random tests. I'd rather sell used cars.

No. That's retarded. If you're a minor, then you're not applying for jobs that are going to look for this anytime soon. Just take the penalty for now and pay the $250 to get it expunged after you graduate. Terrible idea.

Me too. And it's more or less a crapshoot today whether they'll come down hard or not but it's gotten much more strict. Trying to cull the drunks who've given the profession a bad name, I guess.

So the consensus here is I should just plead guilty and pay the fine? Or should I plead nolo contendere? Or does it matter?

If that MIP on my record doesn't really affect me later in life, then I don't see why go through all that community service and class and extra money for essentially nothing.

Eta: I read that the statute says that first time offenders shall not be fined more than $100. Is that true?
