re: millennials

It's a weird mix of jealousy for the youth wasted on the young, a lack of understanding at how completely different most millenial's educational and homelife upbringing was, a complete lack of understanding for just how different the entry level jobs market is now for recent grads, stereotyping that lumps all people between the ages of 16 and 35 in with the most retarded SJW's on Tumblr, and a certain smug self-satisfaction that comes in differentiating yourself from a group by refusing to associate with their styles, fads, foods, music, ect. It doesn't make you "cool" if you don't like things Millenials supposedly like like EDM, Tame Impala, Siracha, organic foods, craft beer, dressing like a Civil War deserter, or soccer. It doesn't make you cool if you DO like those things either.

In all honesty, there's nothing "wrong" with any generation. There's a lot wrong with people, a lot wrong with our educational system, our entitlement system, our government, healthcare system, economy, human resources departments, financial sector, criminal justice system, ect.

The only real difference between generations are what they experienced. Some had to go to war as children. Some had to battle racial discrimination and segregation. Others had to live with all of the consequences, good and bad, of the end of that regime. Some were forced to raise themselves as latchkey kids. Some were never left alone or allowed to fail by their helicopter parents. Some explored the wild west days of the internet. Others were allowed to fight in school while some weren't. There is nothing wrong or right with millennials as a whole, only things wrong with the government, corporate, parenting, educational, and media culture that produces bad, insufferable, mal-adjusted people.

every generation in the last 100 years thought the generation after them were pansies and useless. not much has changed.

yet its the 40+ crowd sending these millennials to fight wars in the middle east. maybe some respect is deserved.

I hate to break it to you, but these people existed in 1966, 1976, 1986, and 1996, they just didn't have You Tube, Reddit, Facebook, and Tumblr to spread their bullshiite everywhere.

Are you asserting that social media is only used by the 'SJW' types and that the rest of that generation ignores it? And of course they existed throughout time. But never in such a large percentage of one particular group.

The 'politically correct' culture took off in earnest during Bill Clintons time at the WH, early 90s, and millennials hit the 1st grade right around that time. It's what they've grown up in and it's been a much more profound and more widespread phenomenon than any societal shift in our history.

This shift took root much earlier of course, in creating safe havens for this nonsense in academia most notably. But academia is a very small percentage of the population. However, it exerts influence over children for roughly 33% of their lives from 1st grade up thru college, so it has a large effect. But as it relates to millenials, you look to PC culture taking off in the early 90s.

I am saying that social media makes the fringe movements appear to be accepted by the mainstream because the shrill minority that spams social media with stupidity will always post more than regular people. They're not actually a larger percetage than ever, they just have more avenues to broadcast People 40+ don't get this, so they kowtow to social media pressure, thinking that those that are complaining are this massive concensus movement. They are finally realizing that they really aren't. It's a paper tiger. They are loud, attentive, and everywhere, but they are not indicative of actual public opinion. Most people actually don't give a f$&k, millennial or otherwise.
