Kids see the military as woke, now
My son said he never considered the Army, because his friends would think he is gay.
Anecdotal, sure. But I don't think he uniquely came to that conclusion.

I think this says more about your son and his friends than it does about the Army.

Maybe his friends are too chicken shite to join the Army so they make themselves sound tough by calling it gay?

In the summer of ‘68, I told the Marine recruiter I wanted only to do 2 years. His reply was that probably meant the infantry and Vietnam. Was probably the most honest Marine I ever met, he kept his word.
I saw a lot of combat and was wounded twice. Wasn’t near as glorious as I had imagined. A lot of sweat, boredom and fear. Oddly, I’d probably do it again. Not sure why. But, nope, not glorious at all.

quote:In 1980 (yes you frickers, I am that old) my recruiter tried to talk me out of the MOS (job speciality for the civilians) that I wanted, which was infantry (11B). I had scored well enough on my ASVAB that I could have asked for any specialty. He was a combat engineer and knew what I was asking for. But young, dumb Wolfhound wanted to be like the Army commercials so I got my wish.
A common theme throughout Basic Training and AIT is "congratulations your recruiter lied."
Dumbass.

This is coming from some one who supports a school who failed at stacking wood.
