The Center For Southern Follklore Museum is in the lobby of the building I'm in.
It's worth checking out.
If I get a few free minutes, I'll stop in the Visitors Building and pick up some brochures of points of interest.
Check back later and we can figure out a way to get you the info.
It's worth checking out.

Thanks a lot, that would help. Looks like we'll have no problem filling our time with stuff to do.

I just walked down Beale and sitting in The Grind House Plaza. Johnny Cash Big River is playing on the PA system and I think UCLA just walked by.
PS I got stabbed two more times.

Here is a perfect night in Memphis. Stay at the Peabody. Get drinks in the lobby and go up and visit the ducks on the roof top and enjoy the view. The Peabody is a great experience. Have dinner at Local Gastropub, then go to Flying Saucer, then hit Beale Street. Do not, I repeat DO NOT, end your night without going to Raiford's! All of this is within walking distance.

Cozy Corner and get some bbq.
Those cornish hens are awesome!

If you do go to Top's BBQ do yourself a favor and get a double-cheeseburger. Best in Memphis.
Seriously. Huey's and Five Guys can't touch it.

I'm going to have to go back and read this entire thread and make lists! Thanks for all of the input. I'm probably going to have to take some things off the list unfortunately. I don't really want to be rushing to see it all. But I keeps seeing a lot of repetitive recommendations so it shouldn't be too difficult.

Can't stand their burger. It's not the same kind of greaseball is it?

Is there a tram or light rail in the city?
Why, actually, we do have a tram. Well, more like a monorail. Goes to Mud Island. Not sure if it'll be open in time for your trip here.
Definitely do not skip the St. Jude tour, though.
Whoever mentioned the double cheeseburger from Tops must have seen me at the counter ordering today.

Stay away from Gus's Fried Chicken, nothing special just a tourist place. Get up early and go to Bryant's for the best breakfast you will ever eat. It's at the southeast corner of Graham and Summer Ave. It's not a big place and fills up quick but is worth the wait. Cozy Corner and Central are best bets for BBQ. Lost Pizza Co. and Rock N Dough pizza are awesome. The zoo is very nice. Feed the giraffes for $5, sting rays are open as well. Stay at The Westin or The Madison and just walk around The Peabody. Make sure you go to the top of The Peabody, great views. Just stay away from streets that are named after states and you'll be just fine. Oh, ride the trolley to Ernestine's and Hazels and get a Soul Burger, frickin awesome, the walk over to The Cheesecake Corner for the best dessert in Memphis. Their both on the corner of G.E. Patterson and S Main. E and H is an old brothel and a great place to hang out and drink really cold beer.

If you're going to Memphis, I'd stay somewhere close to Nashville.

As I said earlier, I already booked the Peabody. Did I mess up?

Nah, you're fine. You should go to Raifords at like 3am when you're hammered. It's a cash only bar and they only sell 40oz beers

Nope, you did good.

Good, phew.
I have the Gibson reservations for the tour. They were very helpful and seconded everyone's recommendation on not getting a car.
Any other things that I need to do that would require booking ahead of time? The crawfish festive, Beale St, restaurants are all "play it by ear" things but the Gibson thing, for instance, needs to be planned ahead of time. Any others?

I'm telling you Restaurant Iris might be the best restaurant in the city. Definitely need reservations. It's usually booked a month in advance.

Just looked into it and booked until the 13th but we'll be gone by then. Unless I call amex concierge and see if there's something they can do or if anyone knows anyone that can help, I'm out of luck.
Just ordered a Redbirds hat online!
