Family is headed up to Memphis for this weekend. Memphis in May BBQ cook off is in Tom Lee Park. Any issues with the river and accessibiity to anything in the city?

There was not last week, and I have not heard any of any issues heading into the week. Drove right by on Friday.

I mean the river is a little high right now, but it would take a miracle for the bluffs to flood. It's a little high in Tunica right now, but it floods frequently there.

Memphis in May is always a zoo and this year feels busier than ever. I work in the service industry but there are no real issues that spring to mind.

Gotcha. I was doing a quick google map and satellite view and the park wasn’t that far off of the river. And the levees are pretty high on the other side. They are freaking high in BR right now so I was just wondering.

Memphis in May is a great time! Lots of good food, lots of great live music

Just be prepared for the most culcha you’ve ever seen and keep your head on a swivel. Downtown is dangerous.

I was there during the music festival last weekend, it's the high density of cultcha on wheels he needs to look out for.

Music Fest is a lot different than the BBQ fest.

No. The river is fine and won’t keep you from having an amazing time. Most important thing about bbqfest is knowing someone with a spot so you can get a wristband . Otherwise you are just wondering outside looking in at the party.

Oh yeah, can't believe I forgot that part.

I never go to BBQ fest without an invite from someone I know on a team. Freaking pointless otherwise.

Yes, at least Music Fest means you can listen to music vs a BBQ festival where you can't eat unless you know the right people. Memphis is a shithole I'll be glad stop visiting every few weeks.

I’m sure he’ll be fine but it’s not the safest city

Downtown? Sure it is.

Crime is mostly concentrated in a few zip codes in the south and north parts of the city that most people never have to go to if they don't want to.

Have you never been to a barbecue competition before?

It ain't a food truck festival.

That’s actually a little disappointing. I am coming up all this way to try some of the competition BBQ but it sounds like that’s pretty limited to the public. I don’t know anyone cooking in it unfortunately

It's not worth going if you don't have a tent to go to. I've never been to any other BBQ competitions, but I doubt there are very many big ones where the competitors are passing out BBQ to people outside of their group
