Anyone have their kids at mayfair lab? Is it a good school? I prefer westdale academic magnet but mayfair is closest to my house.

Mayfair is my safe bet.

They’re an A rated school, ranking a little lower than WHAM, BRCVP, & FLAIM.

I wanna say they’re somehow associated with University Lab, but I can’t remember where I read that.

With that being said, we’re looking at this school too along with the others. Going to the open house this week. A

I’ve heard good things. It’s K-8 too. Direct feed into BRMHS and Lee

ETA: FLAIM is prob the hardest magnet to get into now. It’s super popular.

I went to Mayfair for Kindergarten in 1980-81. I still remember my teacher giving us a damned good lesson on the N word when a black kid used it in class(RIP Thad).

As for now. can't help you. I just wanted to reminisce.

My two daughters go there. One in kindergarten and one in second grade. Its a great little school. The we live in Magnolia Woods and have two other families around the corner that send their girls their too. From what I hear from parent that have sent their kids to other magnet schools they like Mayfair better because its a more relaxed environment than FLAIM

Its modeled after the University Lab School. In grades K-3, each classroom has two teachers: an instructor with a Master degree and an associate with at least a Bachelor degree. In grades 4-5, there are two instructors and one associate per grade level. I believe this was expanded to middle school as well but I'm not sure.

It currently has a higher rating than Westdale as well (A as opposed to C)

Are you sure you're not confusing Westdale Heights Academic Magnet Elementary school (WHAM) with Westdale Middle school? WHAM is an A school, Westdale Middle has a C rating.

Is FLAIM middle school still housed at Westdale middle? Or did they move with the others to the new FLAIM campus @ the old Valley park school?

Yes, the middle school foreign language immersion program is still at Westdale Middle. There is also a Gifted & Talented program at Westdale (some kids are in both immersion & GT). The magnet program there feeds into BRHS and Lee.

Some FLAIM kids go to McKinley Middle or Sherwood Middle instead of continuing in the immersion program.

FLAIM at their new location (old Valley Park site) only has K-5 immersion, and I think a regular Pre-K class as well.
