Get a good friend to do the deed and cover the wound.

This have been posted in one of these threads before but it helped me out a lot when I had to let mine go. Had me balling crying in the office

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Good luck man. It's hard to lose your best friend but she had a good life

So sorry.....

My 7 year old Lab/Terrier mix was diagnosed with Lymphoma in mid February....

We had her on Predisone for a few weeks to keep her comfy and feel like herself, and it worked...She had a great 3 weeks, eating everything in site, running & playing...

The meds only worked for so long, before the sickness began to win the battle...

She was on her second day of not eating much and just laying around....

That puppy dog look in her eyes was no longer there and I knew it was time, even though I kept trying to convince myself that she was just having a bad day....But that was just my selfishness...

I fed her some chicken nuggets and chicken thighs by hand the night before, and rubbed her head for a little while then went to sleep.

Next morning I called for her, but she did not come around the corner....

She went peaceful and in her sleep....As hard as it is, I couldn't have asked for a better way for her to go...

I put mine down on December 30th. It was not easy but I couldn't deal with watching her suffer anymore. It felt like I was being greedy by keeping her alive just because I would miss having her around. Looking back I don't regret it.

Sorry man. I had to put both of mine down last year. One was young but developed rare liver cancer.

there are far greater everyday tragedies in life than having to put down a 13 yr old dog who's lived a great life.
