Matherne’s Market to anchor LSU Nicholson Gateway Project
Business Report
Matherne’s Market will be the new retail anchor tenant of LSU’s Nicholson Gateway Project, a mixed-use development of student housing, restaurant and retail space currently under construction on a 28-acre site on Nicholson Drive, between West Chimes Street and Skip Bertman Drive.
The new 17,000-square foot market will be similar in size and merchandise mix to Matherne’s downtown location, which opened in December 2014 on the ground floor of 440 on Third with an emphasis on fresh and prepared foods, and specialty items.
“We kind of felt like this would fit our new format, like we did downtown,” says Ernie Matherne, who, with his son, Tony, will own the new store. “We’ve decided in the future we would do these smaller format, fresh and specialty type operations, and this fit well.”
It's going to be part of the LSU Gateway project under construction. Should be very near Tiger Stadium and the thousands of new on-campus apartments being constructed on Nicholson.

Plank already has Tony's Seafood, which is awesome. Gravy should try it instead of being a little bitch.

I'd HAPPILY give NBR Mathernes if they move Tony's to south BR.

Those people don't look like the Mathernes people though.
Just another business that the man steered away from north BR
Speaking of that, has he moved his business to north br?

He said Tony's was a plantation filled with slaves
He wants jobs in NBR but doesn't want the people of NBR to work at said jobs

We need a SBR location at least. Damn I hate going to Plank and Hollywood.

But he would have to drive all the way across town from Shenandoah.

Then he can try Hi Nabor on Winborne. It's also an independently owned grocery that has been operating for decades in north Baton Rouge.
Oh wait...Gravy doesn't live in north Baton Rouge.

Either way, his opinion doesn't matter.

Matherne's is usually pretty good. It's an AG store.
Similar developments at University of Southern California and University of Maryland contain a smaller specialty grocery of this scale and size.

LSU Dining Halls
It's a totally different campus experience than just 15 years ago. The new Rec center is amazing.
