I'm not sure about that. I kind of think that's still why the bars can't sell drinks to go including the daq shops.
Go drive down Claiborne on Saturday night. The bars are now people selling Heineken out the back of a pickup truck. And it has been packed with people every single weekend

Detroit is a shithole. surrounding suburbs are nice
True.
However, unlike N.O area the regions economy isn't tourism based.
Detroit, is the technical capital of the Auto industry.
GM, Ford, VW, Toyota, Daimler, etc all have massive Engineering centers. There are machine shops everywhere, parts suppliers.
If NOLA goes to total shite, tourism is impacted and everything suffers.

What would go to shite so bad that people would stop visiting New Orleans once things open back up?
I mean, look at Mexico, people hanging from overpasses hasn’t stopped people from visiting Cabo or Cancun.

I'm hearing of several high profile local bankruptcies being prepared right now that when filed will send some shock waves across nationally.
Restructuring debt doesn’t mean they are closing down forever. Relax Karen

How convenient that it is also Latoya’s favorite spot.

Yes. I see her there often.
She enjoys margaritas to go.

it's not a direct answer to this question's intent, but covid is going to really hurt tourism globally for a few years
there is going to be an initial surge when people can travel again but the worldwide economic effects are going to be bad, and felt among the rich nations who can afford to have international vacations

I see conventions being curtailed. Sure, we'll still have them but not same extent.

well assuming their is a vaccine approved VERY quickly, it will still take all of 2021 for it to be implemented (per Fauci)
and that's just the direct/acute economic effects. there is possibly going to be a global depression for 3-10 years once covid is gone and not a worry

Mr LSU is also the guy who saw the middle of the Hard Rock bulging the night before.

Well thankfully the Mississippi River still flows through New Orleans and last time I checked there’s still a major Port here that is the lifeline to 90% of the Untied States.
Not to mention cruise lines will be back.
Tourism will never die in NOLA, no pun intended.
The Mississippi River isn’t going anywhere.

my post was only about tourism
plenty of other industries are going to be hit hard as well. places that aren't diversifeid will be seriously hurt, especially b/c of the house of cards post-2008
to bring up Detroit again, they're going to suffer greatly as well

Who gives a frick about Detroit?
Detroit and New Orleans couldn’t be more different. Why even try to compare the two.
If Detroit would fall off the face of the earth no one would notice.
If New Orleans burned to the ground, fell off the shelf into the GOM, or flooded forever, the world would be effected.
