If he has some college, get him to do OCS. They'll help pay his way through school after some initial training then he goes active later

It's not quite that easy to get a PLC slot, especially these days.

I'm assuming he's a white guy and yes that makes it extra hard to get a PLC slot but plenty do. Make sure he knows the pros and cons of going officer vs. enlisted.

Tell him to keep his mouth shut and his eyes and ears open. They're going to screw with him as much as possible, it's all about attitude. In one ear and out the other. When he's older he'll look back on it as one of the best times of his life.

He should have stayed in school and then gone to OCS. Wish him well.

My FIL is a Marine vet. When people ask him for advice about recruit training, he tells to be as unnoticed as possible.
