If they had kept their hands off of things that they did not work for, none of us would have ever heard of any of them.

Don't start none, won't be none.

Did you see the video? This guy is a nut case. The thieves and the driver need some serious rehabilitation.

Yes. I saw it.

I'm also a believer that when you commit a felony against your fellow citizen, you take on all foreseeable results.

It is totally foreseeable that if you point a gun at someone to steal from them that you might end up dead.

How really doesn't matter to me

Under what pretense? This guy tried to kill them with his vehicle long after they had fled the scene.

He's obviously a hero in the eyes of the OT, but in what civilized society is anything he did acceptable? The thieves are complete scum, no doubt about it, but that doesn't excuse his actions at that point.

Like I've said before, criminals now know that victims are afraid to fight back out of fear of getting in trouble for fighting back.

If you saw the video and you think it was "fighting back", I don't know what to tell you.

This guy might get off much like Zimmerman did, but they're both worthless pieces of shite.**

**Criticizing Zimmerman or the guy in the OP doesn't exclude Trayvon or the thieves from also being worthless pieces of shite.

ol boy that got smoked the worst definitely cut hard and moved in front of the car before impact.

Of course criminals aren't exactly smart, running away from the scene IN the street is Einstein like.

They used to hang a mthrfker for stealing a horse. Guess how many horse thieves they had running around? Better aim and it would saved some taxpayer money, epic fail, but an A+ for effort

he was not justified. If he had done it immediately in fear for his life, sure, but chasing them down and running them over is a crime.

Legally, yes, but if I were the DA, I would sooner give him a medal than prosecute him.

Good for him. That was the only way he could get justice. You just can't give the thugs free reign over weaker people.

After the situation occurs, you can't chase them down and hurt them. What happens if this idiot mows down the piece of garbage armed robber but also hits other people in his rage?

Vigilantiasm sounds great until you have poorly trained people getting involved in avoidable life/death struggles in the middle of the populace. You have the right to defend yourself against lethal force or the real threat of lethal force, but untrained civy's just retaliating after the situation will result in more loss of life.

Then he could be charged with that. Simple.

But. As I said. In my view, if you go commit a felony against another person then all foreseeable consequences of that act, INCLUDING the fact the other guy might kill you, are YOUR FAULT.

I know that's not what the law says. The law in this is stupid.

I'd be a little broader with my definition of when the situation occurs. He would have unquestionably been within his rights to pull out a gun and shoot them while they had the gun pointed at him, so the use of potentially deadly force is not the issue here, but the timing. In a situation like this, I would consider (although I know the law does not) the immediate aftermath part of the situation and any attempt to resist the robbery or recover his stolen property would be justified. Under a strict interpretation of the law as you suggest, if you get robbed and then see the person a few minutes (or at any time) later, you would not even be allowed to walk up to them and threaten to kick their arse if they didn't give your money back. You should be able to do that, IMO.
