Mike was one of my dad's poker buddies, and he dated my aunt at one point. Was always nice to me, and I knew I wouldn't get in any trouble so long as I didn't do something egregious.
There is a particular story about him shaking down a non-protected mid-level dealer down by the river that would make your hair stand up. Only heard it second hand from former APD but it's believable and absolutely fricked.

There's a story about a particular dealer who only ever got arrested and wound up in prison because it went over his head. The warrant was Federal and came through when agents were basically already staged. They cut him completely out because they knew. It wasn't just dealing, either.
He was always nice to me and my folks. Who he is and how he operated was no secret. I'm fully convinced, straight up, that he could run again today and win even with all the shite pending.

Also interesting to note that his big issues didn't really start until the county started giving away land. All of the sudden some old baws were in another city's jurisdiction.

If you remember Pullum running against him almost successfully back in the day, one of my old school buddy's dad was his campaign manager and ran the local GOP. Poor ol' Ben fell down some stairs at Sandpiper, I believe, and Pullum's run was over.

I don’t know about this but I do know that Stacey Cameron needs to work on his shirt and tie combination. Might look into an eye glass frame consultant while he’s at it.

Thank EWE for making them virtually untouchable during the state constitution revisions in the early 70s. He did that to reduce the power of the AG. I do recall the sheriff of st helena parish going to jail for running a chop shop?!
