And it’s supposed to get worse tomorrow with 60-100 mph winds forecast for the entire area.

I’ll keep the hurricanes and floods. Cali can have the wildfires and earthquakes.

Unfortunately, that's perfect fire weather.

Florida has more forest area and hardly has any wildfires. It’s because they maintain their forests and have controlled burns annually.
There is no comparison between the two states when it comes to wildfire.

California stopped controlled burns around the 80s due to environmental concerns. Now every fire they have gets out of hand.
This is much more a talking point than reality. California has increased RX burning over recent years, it has been a concerted effort to burn more when weather permits.

That is just so awful. Mother Nature at her worst.

Give me hurricanes all day over that crap. Hope they can get it under control.

We’ve got about 33 million acres of forest out here. Florida sits at just under 17 million.

Brought to us by the freaking idiots at the Sierra Club.

I disagree.
The deadliest wildfire in CA history killed less than 90 people.
Hurricanes are deadlier and costlier

Something has been fricky all fire season. Arson is off the charts.
This, though, is just perfect conditions. Anything that sparks is going up in that type of fire weather.

It could be arson or idiots being careless. We’ve seen our share of it in recent years.

With the winds you’ll get embers being carried to God only knows where and all of a sudden you’ve got another fire popping up far from where the crews are fighting. It’s weird because where I’m at we don’t have any gusts but the mountains just up the road have wind gusts into the 40s.

To each their own, I guess hurricanes are just the devil I know. I will say you generally have a lot more prep time than a fire which is a plus.

I was listening to one of the leading guys on fire hardening research and policy a while back. He was saying how everyone focuses on the wall of fire that you see on the news and photos, but that isn't the main threat. Those wind-blown embers are the biggest threat, and are what spreads fire the most. He was saying how fire hardening efforts need to be directed at that threat. It was an interesting talk. I believe it was on a podcast called Nature's Archive.

I’d prefer none of the above. When we had the Creek Fire just up the road from Fresno it burned for four months. The sky turned a different color and ash covered the city. It did smell like a campfire which was nice but it was like a scene out of an apocalyptic movie. We were close to getting evacuation orders (we’re in north Fresno) at one point. Had it made it into the city you’re talking about 600,000+ people scrambling to get out of here. The shame of it is that it was brought on by the mismanagement of the forest and now it will take decades to recover to what it was. SoCal Edison (a power company) has land up in the mountains and they regularly did prescribed burns. Their part of the forest didn’t go up in flames like the state controlled parts. Shocker, right?
