yep, i had a package come from california going to louisiana but first it went to georgia, then it went to texas, and then went to memphis before finally coming here
they said something about its because they go to the centralized shipping hubs first and then to the destination hub that handles that shipping zone before going to its destination.
its crazy when shite passes right buy you and goes 500 miles out of the way just to turn around and send it back when "seemingly" they could have dropped it off as they drove passed you to save time and money

Look up some and wheel supply chain. Actually very effective but like anything else had some minor inefficiencies.

Carriers are using Covid as a cover to gain efficiencies through delays. By sending packages out of their way they can group deliveries. On my street alone the carriers routinely drop off at every other house, where before it would be one or two.

Very normal.
However, during the closures some of the routes are very different since some huge USPS distribution centers (like ones at JFK and Newark Airports) have been operating at significantly lowered capacity.
Almost all domestic packages leaving NYC area have been going directly to the larger processing center in Jacksonville, Florida during the shutdown, no matter final destination and that's not usually the case.
My shop mails a lot of packages every week.
USPS is still the best deal BY FAR for many small businesses so I really hope they come out of this economic disaster ok.
