Do you remember the most recent time you bought something long distance without using a credit card? Through a magazine or maybe a phone order? It used to take forever, 3 weeks or more.

I used to buy sporting goods stuff in the mid 90s from places like Eastbay, Bass Pro, etc. and I’m sure I sent in some checks. That used to be the way to get specialty duck hunting items, baseball cleats, etc.

When was I was in 6th grade which was mid 90s I remember I ordered 3 drilled out WW2 grenades to play army games in the neighborhood. 2 for me and 1 for someone I was playing with. They were heavy as hell for a 6th grader to throw, I still have them. I can’t remember the magazine, but it was an Army/ Navy surplus and I mailed in a check and it took weeks on end to get that crap.

The threads on Sears and how long their magazine orders took to deliver got me thinking about this.

No joke Amazon. I’m talking Nastalgia of the good ole days and how lucky it is these days to have almost everything you could want in 2 days.

I remember back when you went to the local sporting goods store and they had like 1 pair of baseball cleats in your size and they were the POS that all the crappy rec ball kids had. So then you had to go to somewhere like Eastbay and order some and you prayed they were in by the first game in 3 weeks and they fit.

Back in the day when you order from a catalog like Sears or JC Penny why did it take 4 to 6 weeks to get anything? Are logistics just so much more refined these days? Like Everett McGill said in O Brother Where Art Thou "well, ain't this place a geographical oddity. Two weeks from everywhere!
