Depending on the size/weight of the TV you don't necessarily have to secure it to a stud (obv that's the best way though). You can use toggle screws if you have to.

Other than that, drill and level. If you had bought the mount from Monoprice it would have come with a level on the mount and you probably would have saved some money.

Put the brackets on the back of the TV first and see how far below the bottom of the mount the TV will hang. That will help you determine how high up the wall to install the mount. Don't use the mount itself as your guide b/c once you hang the TV, the bottom of the TV will be a few inches below the mount.
