Both, my female is by far the smartest in the lot. The males are very intelligent but she can run circles around them. My favorite is the dog door around 3 am. She will slip away quietly but just enough noise they will wake from a dead sleep to chase her. As soon as they are all out the doggie door, she will sneak back and find the warmest spot on the bed while they yap at least 1/2 at nothing and return defeated and getting the cold spots.
