To be acknowledged for saying that I didn’t think game winner would be the highest placing baffert horse. And I’m glad he didn’t win, as you will remember me saying over and over.

People are idiots. After the DQ call was made, people on social media was saying that will kill horse racing, etc, etc, etc.
I am an as casual fan as you can get. I follow the triple crown races and go to the track every once in awhile. I watched what Max Security got DQ'd for about 10 times, read up on the rules, read what "experts" had to say.
There are several sports/horse racing handicappers I follow on twitter and all of them said it was the right call.
So after learning what I didn't know, it seemed like it was pretty obvious it was the right call. I've been to the track before when a horse was DQ'd (maybe 3 or 4 times). I didn't understand why and I still can't watch a race and notice it when it happens, but from everything I read on Saturday it's hard to argue it was a bad call.
But then all of the opinion articles started getting published.. On usatoday, yahoo, etc.. And all of those writers were writing about how damaging it was to the Kentucky Derby, etc, etc..

How many times have a team lost the national championship in college basketball because a player called a time out the team didn't have? That happened once.
