I lived out in the country. That was modern technology in 2002.
ETA: I actually don't know when it was. I think I was in Junior High but I still played on it in High School some.

funny enough, even nudity wasn't a big enough lure. it was seen as even more weird to get naked pics from girls from the internet

Funny you say that. I remember when I was in middle school learning about that and became friends with a chick on one of the boards. Eventually we went over to aim messenger. To show you how dated this was, she sent me a picture in the mail. She lived in PA. :nerdalert:
