It's the accent of that main character. Sounds like it's a comic book thing. I liked Sin City

The main character as in Butcher? He’s one of the main characters and Karl Urban is from New Zealand so his accent isn’t probably that far off. There are several main characters though, and the young lad (Hughie) is Dennis Quaids son
