the plastic ring under the lid will retain smells no matter how good you wash it. i always store mine with the lid upside down thinking that would help...i read today where you can put 2 cups of white vinegar in it and hit the steam button for 2 minutes and the ring smell will be gone...i'm gonna try that tonight.

I havent noticed a smell on mine. I did have to order the ring that seals the lid because it wasnt getting pressure anymore.
Other than that, no problems with it. Its a pretty good device with an easy cleanup
