However, look a little closer. Yes, earning what used to be considered a C is now a B-, but a B- isn’t equivalent to a B anymore. If a student receives a 90 in a class, what used to be a 4.0 GPA is now a 3.7 GPA. Receiving all C’s, which is considered “passing”, used to give you a GPA of 2.0; now you receive a 1.7. Most on-campus jobs, clubs, Greek organizations, and even TOPS require a minimum of a 2.0 GPA to remain in good standing.

This is a year old, why are there still questions?

I feel like this is the biggest rip off for a college student. Depending on the difficulty of the class granted....but if someone gets an A i feel like they should get that 4.0 in quality points.

It is just a new way of thinking about grades at a more granular level.

It says that someone scoring a 91 isn't the same as someone scoring a 96 in the class. At its root, graduated scoring more accurately conveys academic success.

The problems are at the margins...Scoring a 90 vs an 89 and it having a .3 difference of GPA is severe. However, an even more extreme version exists on the classic 10 pt scale where a 90 is a 4.0 and a 89 is a 3.0.

We didn't have this...but some schools do. Typically reserved for scoring a 98+ in the class IIRC.

LSU gives it at 97+

I'm not a fan of 4+ GPAs because it just reconfirms grade inflation. But, if you can't beat them, join them?

Don't forget the illusive A+ = 4.3

I'm guessing you didn't get many of these.

FTR, I believe the word you're searching for is elusive.

Very true. Didnt really look at it at the granular of a level for grades. I would just be pissed to have work my arse off for that 91 and get a 3.6 not a 4.0

I would be even more pissed if I got a 71 but somehow I lost my scholarship or couldn't graduate because this wasn't considered a 2.0.

That's what I thought too, but apparently a - grade in the course is actually considered not passing.

There is no possible way this can be true.

C- < C

Seems pretty straightforward. If you need a "C" to pass then you're SOL.
