LSU was awesome in the 1980s. You could be college poor and still have a great time. Nobody was living in apartments with marble countertops. We were also more independent than kids today because it was harder for parents to keep close tabs on you.

Yes, '79-'84. Dynamite live music and bar scene in Baton Rouge. Just go find an old Gumbo and see who performed in the city during those years. It will blow your mind.

You couldn't smoke in class, but you could in the hallways waiting for your class. You could smoke in the Union while drinking $.60 beer in the Tiger Lair (not to be confused with the Tiger Lair Lounge in Tiger Plaza Apartements) and watching the big screen TV. 2-4-1 longnecks at the Bayou on Friday afternoons then scarfing down somewhat edible Chinese food at the Dragon Hall Cafeteria was always fun.

The football team was pretty mediocre-to-bad during some of those years, but roundball games at the Assembly Center made up for the Tigers' gridiron woes.

There's a quote in there towards the end where they're talking about "Getting it out of your system" before they take on their responsibilities in the real world. One guy says, "They're is nothing more disgusting than a 45-year old getting drunk at a dinner party and throwing up on the table."

Ummm....that actually doesn't really happen much outside of South Louisiana.

88-92 and it was glorious. Lived in Tigerland at Bengal Properties. Walked to Sports and The Tiger without fearing for your life. Ate Mr. Gaddy’s buffet alot and bought kegs every weekend. Was an incredible time

This is a really great point. College has its own haves/have nots and the gap is extremely wide now.

Some attend in pure luxury, but I bet you y’all had a much better time!

I lived in El Cid most of my college career.

I thought I was in tall cotton.

First time I ever had a buffalo wing was at Lyman Whites.

I was confused when my friends said we were going to a chicken wing place. I couldn’t wrap my head around only serving wings.

South Seas, Keg trucks, Murphys.

I think it started going to chit in the mid 90's when that kid drank himself to death.

My freshman year in the early 80s we had to stay on campus for a couple of nights for orientation (even if you weren’t living on campus). One of the orientation functions was a keg party. It was a nickel for a cup of beer. So I guess you could say drinking on campus wasn’t only allowed, it was encouraged.

Off campus, there were two bars owned by the same guy that were a couple of miles apart. If you paid the cover at one bar you could into other bar. They had school buses running between the two bars. You got a shot getting on the bus at one bar and another shot when you got off the bus at the other bar. Good times.
