In Louisiana, the gambling laws prohibit any organization outside of licensed casinos from taking a cut of the winnings from gambling.

Here's the quote of the day. We live in the most backwards arse state. Btw, you can still go sit in a casino all night and spend all of your paycheck while drinking and smoking but I can't go to my neighborhood bar and have a beer inside.

There are many outdated laws like this that need to be tweaked. And LSP should show a lil common sense when enforcing some of these laws. Pick ur battles LSP, especially in the violent criminal climate of today. This is not where i want my tax money utilized. Pathetic.

Please give me an explanation of the ethical and moral justification of the government arresting people over playing cards in their own home or private establishments. This is one of many areas that we have tolerated over step by the government for way too long. If I want to play cards with people in the privacy of my own home, including betting money that we've worked our asses off for AND already paid the government a portion of through already ridiculously high income taxes, then I should be free to be able to do so. That's not what this is. This is running games and taking a rake. I'm not for the law, but that's currently illegal and what you described of a handful of baws sitting around playing cards is not.

There is legal poker rooms all over Houston.

Piss off the wrong person and see how legal it is. It is a gray area if they are charging a membership and only a membership. If any raking or even tipping the dealer happens, it is illegal. I don't agree with it, but that is the law. The Oklahoma and Louisiana casinos pump millions into Texas to keep casinos out of Texas.

Excuse me, but according to their mission statement, they seek to “ensure the safety and security of the people in the state through enforcement”. Speaking of doing its job, how about doing this first? I hear north BR is pretty wild.

Ok...but you do realize when the state legislature legalized gambling it appointed the state police to regulate all gambling establishments.

By law they are required to do so...
