Yeah, that argument is getting really old. So, because some assholes will try to force a church to marry them, we should ban all gay people from getting married.
It would be like arguing in the 60s that you are against desegregation because you are afraid of the ramifications of affirmative action. Denying someone their rights is not justifiable because of a possible ramification. If you want to be mad about that possible result, be mad at the court that "forces" churches to perform gay marriages.

nobody is naive enough to think that somebody couldn't file a lawsuit over anything. i could sue to make the government recognize that I'm an alien being not subject to the laws of man if i wanted to, but i don't have a shot in hell at winning. your entire argument is absolutely stupid and has no basis in reality.
just saying "love wins" does not mean that "hate loses" or that everyone opposed to gay marriage is full of hate. love wins, as i interpret it, means that homosexual people who love each other have "won" the right for that love to be recognized on the same level as a straight couple. the verdict has nothing to do with anyone's religion or belief in right and wrong. you can continue to believe it is wrong for two dudes to get married. many believe it's wrong to drink or have premarital sex. these are "immoral" things to some people, but generally recognized as acceptable practices. not too long ago, it was illegal for people of different races to marry in many states. this is no different.
the bottom line is this has no effect on you whatsoever. your own marriage (or anyone else's) is not degraded. your religion is not forced to accept anything it did not previously. the ONLY rational argument against granting homosexuals the same right to marry is a religious one. but a founding principle of the US is that there shall be a separation of church and state. accordingly, religious doctrine will not dictate the laws that we force others to live by.

I married a woman and it was done by a judge and not in a church. It was a big ceremony outside, but it wasn't "religious" per say.

This is a completely logical argument. I made the point about this due to comments about imposition of moral absolutes made by another poster.
It cannot be said that Christians are the only ones seeking to impose them, it goes both ways.
Agree to disagree on what you believe should be a right and what I do
And for anyone that says that it has no effect on anyone else, you are pretty silly. A lot of difficult conversations will be had within families and with children tonight and really over the last few years about the celebration of behavior that parents and families believe is wrong.
If this was going on without the fanfare and the leader of the free world celebrating it, it would not be nearly as big of a deal.
