Yes you’re 100% right. I have worked in a private facility and at Jackson and the private facilities are overrun with people that should be put in serious long term care for their own safety but are let back out after a week or so. Jackson now is pretty much a forensic facility only and still has a pretty big population as far as modern state mental hospitals go.
I’ll tell you one thing about the ELMHS in Jackson is that it might be the most fascinating place in Louisiana that is never talked about. It has been open continuously since 1848 and many of the buildings there are like stepping back in time. It’s also one of the weirdest/creepiest places I’ve ever been as there’s been some really fricked up shite go down there. I’ve even heard stories of legit exorcisms performed and there’s a dungeon underneath the main building. The whole place has a weird vibe that can’t really be put into words that I’ve never felt anywhere else before but it’s still the coolest place I’ve ever worked.

Pretty sure HHS just cut the funding to states that helped pay for mental illness.
Its up to the states to fund their own centers

You want tax payer dollars to pay for this shite?
Yeah. Do you want to step over them on the street or have them harass your family at the store or gas station?

Or was it given to states as block grants for them to spend it how they wanted? Im asking because I dont know.

I'm fully on board with tossing the homeless crazies in the Mississippi River and sending them to the Gulf of America.

I figured, but ED has always been erectile dysfunction

No doubt there is a need for all psych patients. The number of patients requiring that care will continue to increase. Either we add increased care or we force them on the streets.

Located in Jackson and Pineville Louisiana need to be expanded. They have been reduced in size through the years, and many people in this state need to be committed to these hospitals. The Pineville facility (1959) once cared for 3,000 patients daily, but now it is licensed for just 116 beds. Now most mentally ill are homeless and found on many streets across Louisiana.
Money shouldn’t be an issue since these are the only two State funded hospitals left, when Jindal shut down all the Charity Hospitals to save the state money but of course used it to pay for more for private hospitals and such.

More colleges per capita in one of least educated states while low mental hospitals per capita in one of highest mental health needs states.
I do not have real data on this. Just doing it anecdotally like the social media machine.
However, pause to reflect how LA allocates its resources vs citizen’s needs. Head scratcher.
