Just heard WJBO radio report the 43 hospitalizations as “most importantly, the hospitalizations rose by 43”.
If you hadn’t known they dropped by 43, you’d think we have 43 more in the hospital.

Reporting of deaths have a minimum of 2 days of lag time because deaths are not reported by LDH until a death certificate is received by LDH. Day 1 of lag is July 27 reporting for July 26 activity. The other 1+ day(s) of lag results from the necessity of the coroner reviewing (autopsy) the case and issuing a Certificate of Death which is then filed with LDH.
Watch over the next week as the July 26 death toll rises as the death certificates are received by the LDH.

This appears to be a case of at least one hospital (most probably several) not reporting over the weekend and then reporting today.
On Alabama's Covid dashboard there is a screen that shows the number of cases in the hospital on a daily basis and also the number of hospitals reporting, guess what, of the 110 hospitals in Alabama at least 15 do not report on weekends causing a dip in the graph only to be followed by a rise on Monday.

Best I can do, toggle to the 11th screen and you will find Deaths by Date of Death. LDH is back-filling deaths to the actual date of death on this graph, so the final seven days are a work in progress. But, there is a definite rise in the deaths graph.

Right, this is what I have been looking at. The report of 60 deaths last week was a huge outlier, but it makes sense if no death certificates are received on Sunday to include in the monday numbers. It will cause an unrealistic spike elsewhere.

Has anybody ever looked at the cases by census tract screen? I just went through all the tracts of Ascension, and the totals are 611 less than the total # attributed to the parish, 1724 vs. 2335. Now I'm sure the answer is that they didn't have full address info for those 600, but how are they attributed to Ascension then? If it's tests done at an Ascension testing center, then my guess is EBR is artifically inflated because you know a lot of people are getting tested in EBR that live out in Ascension, Livingston, WBR, etc.

Not following the "unrealistic spike elsewhere", look at the graph I referenced in the post above yours. LDH is back-filling to the actual date of death in the graph to present a more realistic depiction of when the Covid deaths occurred.

The census tract info has been useless for pulling any data from. Im assuming it is valuable to someone, so it continues to be done. The bayou sauvage area in NOLA has more cases than residents, or at least it did a while back.

Right. That is where I pull my data from. The official release for the 22nd is 60 deaths, but as of today only 34 cases have been attributed to that date.
The count of 60 deaths is somewhat unrealistic, it would be an anomaly. But, it appears that on Mondays there might not be any deaths reported for some reason, possibly due to death certificates needing to be processed. That would cause an increase on another day.

LDH reported news (receipt of death certificates) for 60 deaths on the 22nd, not that 60 people died on the 22nd. Look at the allocation of those 60 deaths, none will be on the 22nd they will be from the preceding week. The 34 deaths currently attributed to the 22nd would be back-filled to date of death from the reported new deaths received in the last week or so.
And it is not just Mondays, the reported new death data for each day of reporting will back-fill to the date of death on that graph.
As stated above, deaths are not reported by the LDH until the receipt of official notification (receipt of death certificate). All LDH is reporting on a daily basis is the number of death certificates received. On the graph they are reflecting the deaths to the correct date of death. All states are reporting this way.
