What type of skills do you have? How did a Hog fan end up in IL. One of my buddies ended up in IL North of STL.

Skills
-Aviation Maintnance Quality Assurance (Not wanting to do aviation)
-Experience in aviation flight OPs
-Sales (was a recruiter with very good data analysis & results)
-Leadership (Marine Corps for 10 years. Lots of leadership classes, courses and seminars)
-HR type work
-Knowing how to put contracts/business packages together
-Communication skills. Have been through many hours of public speaking, speaking to community leaders, and hours of knee cap to knee cap interviewing/sales
-Go-getter professional attitude, with ability to learn anything.
-Currently a business student full time.

I am from IL originally. Spent 3 years recruiting in Arkansas. Became a fan listening to Bo Mattingly while spending hours in a gov car on the road visiting 20 high schools during the week. I was there in 2011 and remember when Bobby crashed his bike. I have been a fan at the last peak, and probably the worse times of the program

I spent some time not knowing what I wanted to do too. Eventually I realized it’s not really knowing what you want to do that matters, it’s knowing that you are moving in the right direction. As long as you are doing that the opportunities will present themselves. Chances favor the prepared mind. Take classes especially in finance, management etc and stay active. Volunteer and suround yourself with good /positive people. Check USA jobs in your area. You get priority being a vet. Forest Service, Park Service, Etc. You can also volunteer with these agencies and get hired through student programs.

Looking for suggestions of what you would do if income wasn't necessary at the moment and what you would do to fill your free time making money/bettering yourself.

1) I'd learn tai chi and do it every day.
2) I'd read like a mofo. Everything and anything.
3) I'd do something meaningful. Consider becoming a CASA. It's gut wrenching at times, but you will feel like you are bringing some light to a dark world.
4) I'd journal like a mofo. I'd sit out on the levee with a cup of joe every day and write my arse off.
5) I'd try spend some time every day talking to smart people. Interview people for jobs you might like to have. Write a blog. People are suckers for themselves if you put them in print.

Drones. Look at investing in specialized drones. Energy companies will hire people to fly them and check on power lines. You can also make some money during storms scouting downed power lines. Initial investment might make this a bad idea.

Once you finish up school, I doubt you have many problems finding work. Especially if you're willing to move.
