Isn't that how Marvin Gay died, or was it apple juice?

I knew this would happen eventually with the rising grocery prices.

Eldridge supported his son for 18 years and the little fricker can't buy more orange juice when he finishes it? If I were the judge I would let the dad walk away. He is just teaching his son a lesson. Its a sad world we live in where a father can't discipline his son where he sees fit. More government regulation.

40-year gap in age will do it. My old man is 37 years older than I am (I'm 32, he's almost 70) and I steered clear of his old school wrath when things got tense.

I'm not sure why, but I laughed at this harder than anything

Did you start paying attention when he predicated anything with, "And I swear to GOD..." - because that meant business around my house (my dad was the blackest white dude you ever saw in that respect - in fact, he looked like a white Fats Domino).

"Go get the belt" was usually the worst thing that could be heard at my house…and it never was said in a library voice...

No - he would go get that himself - then pop it in a fairly dramatic fashion - but that was usually a bluff - if you got into compliance at that point, you could usually dodge the bullet, so to speak.

But, "I swear to GOD..." was usually bad. (And mom was the day-to-day disciplinarian - she would strike without warning and from any direction. Dad would usually save us from some of that - but if it was his issue, or he was particularly ticked off - the explosion was much bigger. But easier to see and easier to avoid.)

We got the hickory. What's worse is after the whipping my mamma (grandmother) go put it in a jar of water to keep it limber for days. She had the use of a hickory down to art. It was a rare occasion during my childhood when I didn't have hickory whelps on my legs in various stages of healing.

Usually started with something along the lines of "don't eyeball me, son" or "are you raising your voice in this house?" I usually just walked away. Those times that I didn't, I got something "upside my head".

Funny thing is, he was a chemical engineer and was generally pretty bookish, but he still had it in him.

Hey, at least they have the same last names. How often do you see that these days?

The likelihood of the same last name would tend to increase with the gap in age.
