Anybody ever live in Reno? Have a potential job opportunity, and family just over the CA border

Best area to live in?

Areas to avoid?

TIA

My company just built a faculty there last year and every employee from the LA office peaced out with the quickness to go to Reno. That’s all I got.

I don't know about living there, but I went to Lake Tahoe this past August and stopped at a WinCo Grocery store leaving Reno Airport.

It was awesome. I was transported to 1995.

It was like when K-Mart, Walmart, and your local grocer had that in house food place at the front if the store.

No income tax, lower cost of living

World class skiing within an hour or less in the winter

Lake Tahoe and great outdoors activities for the summer

There are worse places to be

The more south you go the better, nicer homes and areas in South Reno.

Reno is great. Mountains and lake Tahoe to your west, desert to the east. Solid climate. Lowish taxes.

I know someone who is in that SW corner, around Saddlehorn/Galena area. Pretty nice neighborhoods around there. And if you just go up Mt. Rose Hwy., Tahoe is on the other side.

Was there a few years ago for a wedding. Entire area is beautiful. The West University area is a good place to live I believe.

Lake Tahoe was incredible even during COVID.

I think it will be somewhere we return to in the future more than once.

Lot of great land towards Verdi. The little truckee river is a fly fishing gem too

Been there once for business. Hope you like brown. I would move there in a heartbeat. Cold though. Lake Tahoe just down the road is an incredible piece of country.

Down 395 from Reno lies absolute paradise in the eastern sierra and the Owens valley. American Switzerland.

I’ve been told that Johnny Cash once shot a man there just to watch him die.

Dangit!

Owens Valley is more like Mexico than Switzerland.

A place like Fernley isn't bad. It's just east of Reno and close to NAS Fallon (where Top Gun is now).

Just know, the further west you get, the closer you are to Tahoe...that's a huge plus. The further east you go, the more you'll think you're on Mars.

Overall, Reno is not bad at all, but there is a very 1980s/90s feel to some places, like stated above. And the rest just feels like any modern medium-ish sized city.

Just remember, Tahoe, Tahoe, Squaw Valley, Truckee, Tahoe, Tahoe, Tahoe...

Lived there for 5 months last year while working at Tesla. Loved it. Sparks/Marina area is nice. South Meadows on the south side of town is nice too. Casino areas on S.Virginia are a little sketch.
Mid-town is your trendy bars and hipster shops area. Great golf courses and pretty reasonable prices. South Lake Tahoe is the tits.

I’ve lived here for 30 out of my 51 years, and honestly other than Wyoming or New Mexico or Montana Which are very similar I would not live anywhere else. If you don’t live too high on the hill the snow is big much of any issue
I’ve shoveled once this year and about three big storms us the norm. Average of a dry 50 in January with a low of 30 and 90/50 in august
The no humidity is a joy
Only downside is Californians moving over
Trump was right about the wall but the first place we need it is the Nevada/Cali border
