Id risk having to deal with a storm coming in close proximity every few years over multiple storms EVERY year

I have to totally agree with those saying they can't stand being landlocked well away from the ocean. I lived briefly in Colorado. While it's a beautiful state, the sense of isolation in many areas made me homesick for trees and closer proximity to the ocean and a higher, more condensed population. That's why I'd have a hard time living more than a single digit hours drive from the Gulf or Atlantic coast. Growing up only a 4 hour drive to the Gulf Coast will do that too you.

As for the coast vs tornado alley, I'd prefer the coast. New Orleans proper might be an exception with the fragile nature of it being below sea level and dependent on man made levees.

Give me a hurricane over a surprise tornado any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I can do all of that in the woods at the same time I'm surrounded by water. It's a win/win living near the coast.

Not to nitpick, but mapquest has you at a minimum 6 hour drive any direction you go. I found the California coast beaches visually beautiful scenery wise but much less user friendly than the Gulf and Atlantic coast beaches I'm use to.

I done both on several occasions in the past 50 yrs. I would rather take my chances with a hurricane. I can at least predict it. Tornados are something you truly feel helpless in because there is so little time to react. Lost a building last year to one. My son had left it about 20 mins before, or I would have otherwise lost something far more precious. Have had one tornado this year - destroyed about a dozen damned big trees.

Again, while I would rather neither, my vote is for the hurricane.

I'll take a hurricane every now and then compared to an entire seasons of tornado's barreling through my town

I don't live in either, but I do live in an earthquake zone, next to a giant volcano that's due to erupt. I'll take that over tornadoes.
