Berthelot's in Port Allen is allowing sacks to be reserved for 2.99/lb this weekend. Cap city is 3.29/lb. Courville's Port Allen is 2.99 small and 3.49 large. Schaefer in Nola is 3.15 with Cash, 3.35 for card/check.

Appreciate the insight..any recommendations on restaurants in Austin with bugs?

The only place that I've tried that people claim is "legit" is Shoal Creek and they were not good. I gave them a second shot last year and it was no different. Overcooked and bland.

I also tried Pappadeaux because they were running a 3 lb for $15 deal, and they were awful.

I've given up on restaurants serving bugs here. I would give Stuffed a try if they are selling boiled ones yet. I've never had them, but they know what they are doing on other cajun food.

This. I hear bitching and moaning every year about crawfish prices, but there is obvious demand at the current prices otherwise price would go down. It's not like crawfish are rotting in the bags because no one is buying them. People are crawfish horny right now and farmers are going to take advantage of the immediate gratification that people are seeking. I always wait for prices to go down before I boil.

From the field farmers are getting about $2.25 a pound out of the field to the middle guys. The fact some places in TX are just above that is crazy.
Also most catches dropped last week when it was warming up then that cold front came though. So the price never dropped from the prior weeks because the catch didn't increase.

Another thing to add is that there are guys like D&M who have contracts with some Walmarts now. Walmart though won't buy until the price is like $1.65 or something like that. That is why the last couple years you no longer see those 50 cents a pound prices late in the season like you used to. Once the prices hits the buying point for Walmart than the demand increases and stays there for generally the rest of the season.

I called Rouse's in Denham last Friday and they were $2.79 a pound.
I paid this price there on Mardi Gras day. They were a little on the small side, considering that the crawfish farmers had been saying that they were big this year. Cheapest I could find them in BR was $3.29/lb at Capital Crawfish.
