The drinking age was adopted by all of the states based on federal road funding being part of them changing the law to 21. MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) were the ones behind getting it implemented. All this did was take the responsibility of raising a responsible child away from the parents. My daughter and her friends were all 18 when they graduated HS, but I could not serve them alcohol at her graduation party because of the law.

Also, I am in the military and it is a damn shame that my young dumb Soldiers cannot drink legally.

25 now and I think the drinking age should go back to 18 but we should make the consequences for drinking and driving harsher. No reason college students shouldn't be allowed to drink.

Alcohol should be listed as a Sched I drug. It has a high potential for abuse and no medicinal value, so it meets the definition. That would save millions of lives.

No, there was a grandfather clause when they originally added the loophole in the 80's, but in 95 when they closed the loophole there was no grandfather clause. In 1996 this was overturned for 3 weeks, but eventually upheld by the LA Supreme Court with no grandfather clause. I remember because the closing of the loophole took effect about a month before I turned 20.

Agreed. Or even, get a DUI, can't drink legally until 21- put a flag on your license

Along with the highest incarnation rate. We have a lot of pointless laws.

As long as pot is scheduled up like it is, I wouldn't care if they made alcohol illegal again.

I'd make a shite ton on the side with an apple recipe

It's funny.. I was in North Carolina in June at an outdoor center, and bought a mason jar of moonshine from a guy. It was in a dry county- the religious folk want it to remain dry.. No one tries to argue, because the moonshiners wouldn't make money if it wasn't a dry county.

I did a quick search and the minimum drinking age in the majority of the countries across the world is 18. In some countries they can drink beer at 16.

I moved to Texas after graduation in 1988. My wife to be visited me a few times. One night at a club we were thrown out because she was under age. (She was 20 at the time) We had no clue the drinking age was 21 anywhere.

I hated the rule then and I hate it now. Urban legend has it that La was one of the last to succumb for Federal Govt pressure. I heard they started with holding Federal road money until the law was changed. Frick the Federal Govt.

I know La went to 21 kicking and screaming.

We love fricking with peoples lives. The US may be one of the more anti freedom nations in the Western world.
