It was never the same after the Starks closed down.
One day down south, Texaco Town will have both a Texaco (again) and a fast food joint.
Then you will know that good times in LA have indeed arrived.

As Grizz mentioned, and for anyone who may not know this lesser-known Hughes story - it's unhinged real-life Tom Clancy shite. Amazing it was ever declassified. The whole doc is great but scroll to 30:00 for the Hughes part.

I was involved in some work on the Glomar Explorer in the early/mid 90s when it was about to be scrapped, and had the opportunity to spend a little time onboard. I had previously worked on a couple of drill ships around '84-'85, so I knew a little bit about what I was looking at.
The moon pools on the drill ships I'd been on were maybe 20' x 20', no more than 30' x 30' (at least in my experience and to my best recollection ~30 years later). The moon pool on the Glomar Explorer was something like 200' or 210' long. Which, of course, it had to be if you were planning on scooping up an intact Soviet submarine. It's a pretty amazing story.

Watched The Aviator the other day. Good flick.

Crazy useless trivia here. When I was a kid, my step-dad had mega bucks and purchased the hotel in the Bahamas where Hughes holed up for three years. Was able to spend time there for a few summers -fun times.
