Well wind must have been strong to get rid of the BR pollution. Some days tiger stadium isnt visible through all the haze.

I guess fog causes cancer (look up br cancer rates)

Now I would believe it could be a stiff dew

Clean burning means the chemical combusts completely without organic residues left behind

yes, like how fuel gas burns completey... because its fuel gas. burns fast and hot. If other process chemicals are vented that do not burn at that temp, or as fast, the black smoke is created. signaling an incomplete burn. Steam can be added to the flare to help produce a celan burn.

large flare burning off in the distance from the direction of Dow

It's at Dow. It's been flaring since Friday. I drive right underneath it every day

This may or may not be speculation from inside said Chemical Plant, But there may or may not have been some piece of equipment, possibly a compressor around the Hydrocarbon Unit (again speculation)go down....Im sure there is OT Baller that is a Process Operator for that unit on here

the unit has been down and is in start-up phase, depending on the unit and the amount of time it takes for start-up they will be flaring...which they're permitted to do

no, I don't work there.

Thats why your statement was incorrect. That unit isnt scheduled for a outage until spring of 2016 and the last one was because of a busted header in the cooling tower....speculating

The size of the flame is more directly related to volume of stuff going through it rather than the flammability of the material. Not sure, but if we're talking an ethylene plant, then likely the flaring is required due to one (or several) large compressor(s) not operating.

That flare was entirely too large.

That's from 4 miles as the crow flies.

Cool, cool.

Yeah LHCs usually send to the flare monthly. It's just that this one has gone a little longer. Think they're about to start a turnaround.
