Let's talk a little about cancer

According to cancer.org, In 2014, there will be an estimated 1,665,540 new cancer cases diagnosed and 585,720 cancer deaths (over 1,600/day) in the US. Cancer remains the second most common cause of death in the US, accounting for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths. The United States currently ranks 6th in cancer rates behind Norway, Belgium, Australia, France and Denmark being the highest. It seems to me that despite the modernization of medicine, cleaning of water, air pollution reduction, stringent requirements for industrial waste/byproducts, cancer rates are increasing. I know sometimes we are predisposed to cancer and our eating habits, exercise habits and God knows what else which contribute to causes (besides the obvious tobacco/alcohol-related cancers).
Many of our presidents have died of heart disease (probably a side-effect of the job), but when was the last one to die from cancer? Granted, they also have the absolute best care that we couldn’t dream of having.
That brings me to my next point. All of the advances in medicine, technology, stem cells, using viruses to help us, etc still don’t yield a “cure” for cancer. Cancer is a hundreds of billions dollar business for our economy. Could we as a country afford a cure for cancer? Beyond medical treatment, think of death taxes, estate taxes, costs for funerals, and all of the above and how it stimulates the economy.
My thoughts are that we have a cure for cancer. Those with power have access, those who don’t, don’t.
What say you?

Didn't Steve Jobs die from cancer? He was pretty powerful.

is your oral cancer back?

Since most cases are developed later in life, would the increase life expediency answer for some of these increased cases?

I hate to make light of the topic but it reminds me of a funny story. There were a string of radio ads a while back featuring Jeff Foxworthy. The first one I heard, when I didn't know what was coming, literally made me bust out laughing IRL. It went something like this:
"Hi, I'm Jeff Foxworthy. You may remember me from funny jokes such as 'if your thanksgiving dinner is ruined by running out of ketchup, you might be a redneck'. But let me tell you what's not funny....childhood cancer."
It was like ease up jeff.

Cancer is a completely random event. And since it is random there is no cure for cancer only treatments. There are indicators that may suggest that you could get it but they aren't always right, or you may have no indicators and get it. Our current treatments target cells that replicate at a higher rate than other cells, but there are other cells in our body that rapidly divide which become causalities of the cancer treatment. So you essentially kill the body to save the body. Some people can handle the treatment and some can't.

Sarcasm?
I know it's a sensitive topic, but it's a very real aspect of life. Figure I'd get some opinions.

Take it from someone who has been going through this for three years, this is the best way to explain it. I have the best insurance, so can't say i don't have the means for the cure just haven't found the right combination of treatment yet. Every person is different.

I guess Steve Jobs didn't have enough power.
Idiot.
Your example, rooted in presidents, is explained by the fact that the key to a cure of any cancer is early detection.
Don't you think they go through routine scans and checks?
Also, they make such a small cross section of the population they don't be used to make any statistics based conclusions.

Seeing how caner is a random mutation, I wonder when we'll get a form of caner that is beneficial.

Don't be obtuse.
Some mutations are good, some bad, most neither.
Cancer is an example of a product of a bad one.
