Form is the biggest obstacle.

Make sure you're doing squats below parallel, too. It'll speed up the poundage increase.

I'm over 40 now, and my bench is 275, Squat is 375 and Deadlift is 425.

I switched to Westside Conjugate this week to bring up my lagging bench.

I can deadlift about 400 if I want to. Been able to for a very long time. I rarely try to though. Think the last time I did was almost a year ago. My flexibility is not good due to not stretching enough and sitting at a desk all day. So, risks outweigh benefits for heavy deads.

That said I do stiff legged deadlifts every weak. Lot less weight (like 175x10). I'll do sets of 10 on regular deads @ 225 off and on to mix it up, but rarely go over 225. Maybe a couple of times a year I'll throw on heavy weight for sets of 2-5 but that is about it.

Also as far as form goes, watch rippetoes videos on YouTube. He explains it better than anyone. Dont over complicate it though, drop the arse, keep back tight, dont leave the hips behind, lift and throw the hips. Not hard but practice makes perfect.

I go heavy every week.

MaxOT for a while and now trying Westside Conjugate for 2 months and see how it goes. I may change to Wendler 5/3/1 routine depending on the results over the next 8 weeks.

Only thing I do heavy for low reps these days is bench. Ego thing I guess. I like to know I can bench 300 so I try it about once a month.

No way for me to get near a max in squats anymore. My right knee hurts for days when I do. I mostly stick with split squats at 135. Good core work due to balance getting tough when you get tired.

I used to do it all the time in high school and was a state champ in the event for my powerlifting team. I didn't do for 6 years, decided I wanted to start again and on the 9th rep of my 3rd set I herniated a disc.

No nothing like the clean and jerk. Deadlift is the portion of the clean where you lift it off the ground initially.

That's a Romanian.

I just switched back to traditional from Romanian and started at 275 for sets of 8. Felt good so next week I'll just begin around 290. The real test will be squats Thursday. Was doing Bulgarian splits the past seven months.
