Of these three, I'd say Kelly is the only one that is truly "gender neutral." The other two are likely shortened nicknames for a "gender positive(?)" name (Alexander vs. Alexandra; Charles vs. Charlotte).

No kidding? A species with completely different breeding and survival strategies and social structure behave differently than humans? Who would have thunk it? Penguins are a group that have completely shared parental responsibility. Male takes a turn with the egg/young while the female feeds, then they switch. It's not some victory for the gender neutral crowd.
Just goes to show you how instinct and body chemistry can cause some hiccups in life.
