Glad to hear. I love my panasonic plasma. Returned a Samsung led for it.
However in two years the board(s) have burned out twice. It's currently sidelines while i figure out if its worth fixing or not. :/
Speaking of which, what would y'all do?
TV cost me 1,200 or so a couple years ago. Some board went out within a year, panasonic replaced it.
Just happened again outside of warranty. Will cost 400-500 to fix.
Do I get a new tv or just fix the panasonic?

I wouldn't fix it, but that's just me

What is the tv doing (or not doing)? Is the entire board bad?
I just replaced bad capacitors on the power board on a 7 year old Sammy Plasma myself for less than $10. It was pretty easy to do. (tons of youtube videos out there)
If it is the entire board, I'm sure it can be found online for less than $100.
this is a basic walk through of changing a power board....very easy

Best Buy
I picked up this 60" plasma on Cyber Monday from Best Buy for $650 + tax. I had an LCD in the room before it and I can tell you this TV is MUCH better. I
That is a steal for that TV
To the op: I would wait until post super bowl if possible and try to get a similar deal to the above.
Having both plasma's and LCD/ LEDs, I'm very partial to plasma. Panasonic plasmas are money, but will soon be extinct and deals may be hard to come by. You can't go wrong with a Panny or Sammy imo

appreciate your response.
i have the 7 red blinks of death. so its either 1 of 2 boards, most likely the SC board.
i've done a ton of reading up on replacing them and have gone as far as to remove the back cover and check everything myself.
any familiarity with that problem?
there are a bunch of SC board on ebay, even described as used for the 7 blinks.

Im not familiar with this particular issue. Personally, I would try changing out the SC board if you can find one for under $100. The process of doing this is very easy.
Did you notice any bulging (rounded at the top) capacitors on your board? That is what mine had (more commonly a Samsung issue though)
Twice in 2 years is a bad sign though. I wouldnt want to drop $400-500 getting someone else to repair it if that is the case
Have you tried contacting Panasonic directly? Ive read online that sometimes they will provide help outside the original warranty time.

That's what I was thinking too...sounds like it's bordering on a faulty product in that regard.

i did. they said that i would have to get it repaired, then file a complaint with their warranty/repair department after for reimbursement.
she said its very possible it would go through since it broke within a year of repairing, however i would be taking the risk that they wouldn't reimburse.
what i'm trying to do now is find the work order from when it broke last year and see if its a similar issue. if so, then that might give me an idea of what needs to be replaced.
otherwise, this is a video on exactly what i think is wrong with mine. there is another more detailed video thats about 15 mins long.

thinking of purchasing the SU, SD, and SC boards. from what i understand the SC board sends the picture signal through to the SU and SD boards(very layman terms).
i've read that the SC board is probably at fault, but i also read that failure in the SU or SD boards can or will cause failure in the SC board, and it would then be a waste if money.
might as well change out all three and not make a mistake.
From what i've researched the SC board might run me $70-$80 and the SU and SD boards each around $40. so would be looking at $160 plus shipping and any applicable taxes.

I read online that a common problem with Panasonic's boards is the screws backing out causing electrical shorts and buzzing.
They now have a screw kit with lockwashers LINK couldnt hurt
Please let us know how this turns out if you decide to repair your tv.

I always recommend a high quality Panasonic plasma over anything else on the market.
You get better viewing angles, deeper blacks, more uniform brightness than even the most expensive LCD displays on the market. Only localized LED TVs come close.
Just whatever you do stay away from the shitty edge-lit LED television sets that bestbuy and company will sell you on.

I just bought a Samsung 65" LED to replace my Panasonic 50" GT plasma. Picture on the LED is crazy good. Blown away by it. Never had a problem with the Panny, just wanted something bigger.
Problem is I'm finding out the hard way that Samsung puts shitty components in their TVs. Had the TV 2 weeks and it randomly turns itself off and on and gets stuck in a cycle. Only way to stop it is to unplug it. 2 of my friends who've bought Samsung LEDs in the last 2 months are having the same issues. I have the 7100, friends have the 6300 and 8000 series.
Looks like it's a bad ribbon connector and/or PCB in the TV. Google Samsung LED random reboot...this issue is plaguing Samsung.
Like I said, best picture on the market, I dunno what Samsung does to those panels but they're badass....when they work. Just make sure if you get it you buy it from somewhere with a solid return policy (NOT Best Buy) or you get a protection plan. Word to the wise.

This is why I asked about off brand Led's.
I bought a 50" at Sams online for 398.00 and got a 4 year warranty.
Seems all brands have major issues for a much higher price with the same effort getting them replaced.

I spent months looking at TVs. Compared everything out there and I couldn't believe how much better Samsung LED looked than the competition (4K aside, which my wife wanted but just can't justify spending that much for a TV when I know it'll be half that price in a year).
I think picking out a TV is harder than buying a car. Just sucks when you make a big purchase and it turns out to be a headache. Although I'm a tech nerd so I'm pretty confident I can fix it, but I shouldn't have to.

I've been working with pro video since '92 and I work in a field where the inages I put up on videowalls can range from standard def instrumenation to upwards of 60 megapixel images from 3D visualization for sub-sea geophysics and missile intercepts. I know video. I know how to tweak it. I know how to convert it. I know how to encode ir, stream it and have it appear on the other side of the world and be frame accurate, pixel accurate, and color accurate.
That said, plasma can produce some of the most beautiful, color accurate and contrast accurate images imaginable.... if properly color corrected and computer analysed by an expert. Images can appear very lifelike. Skin tones can appear perfect.
LED can give you very crisp detail without image ringing (false information), but tends to never be able to provide good color balance, especially with the problem many have with light falloff around the edges.
To test a video display, you really wantto see how uniform the image can be in the following tests:
Full black background. Plasmas will give you almost true black. LEDs will give you a very dark grey. It might look black to you, but look at it next to a plasma. You'll understand then.
Second, now throw some white text onto that black background. On a plasma, the black background won't change. It will stay black in all areas. On the LED, however, the dark gray background will lighten up, and the top and bottom edges will usually lighten a lot in line with the text.
A good way to test this is to use rolling white credits on a black background at the end of a movie. High quality LED monitors can mask some of this, but lower quality LEDs will flash.
Anyway.... I own both. Plus a diigital projector. Plus a CRT projector. Real old school, but it looks better than ANYTHING except the newest technology coming out: OLED.
I work every week with 4K. Wait. The spec for 60 Hz was jst ratified. Not even 120 Hz is ratified. 4K outside of professional applications is coming, but the displays out now are already obsolete. Wait. It's worth waiting. When OLED 4K is available it will be worth it.

That's subjective. I think that I am one of the few that likes the LED and especially LCD picture better. The plasma picture is sharper, but darker.

Correct. It's also cheaper.
