Best of luck to you and thanks for your service. I did my time at Lackland CC in Aug / Sept of 1981. (Yes, I'm old.)
Keep your pride in your back pocket and maintain a low profile. You'll zip tight through it.
The shakedown inspection is interesting. If I recall, they do that right after you're issued unis and you get your buzzcut. You have to lay out your personals on your cot and stand at attention while they inspect for anything that you shouldn't have. It's really an excuse for 6 - 10 TIs to come in and eff with everyone to see how they hold up.
Just curious....is anyone still trying to push that "square needle in the left nut" crap?

Have fun, I did. And if they ask if anyone likes bowling, don't raise your hand.

You’re going to be great. What makes our great country unique is that men volunteer to defend it, but many don’t! You’re one of the few who did.

hey man, bookmark this thread so you can come back to it when you get done with basic...it will seem like a lifetime ago. It will be cool to read while thinking back on the ways you have changed and what you have experienced.

There’s no such thing as stress cards.
This is true. There has never been a card that you could flash to get out of training. That's an old wives tale.
The kernel of truth are these two cards that just contained things like the chaplains number, although the army got stupid with it with the "stress meter", but it was used with permanent party, not basic trainees.

Didn’t you live on a boat in very close quarters with a bunch of Seamen?

Have fun at Slackland. Keep your eye on the TI at all times. What is your AFSC? And where are you going to tech school? Granddaughter just graduated at Ft. Jackson with honors and got promoted to PV2 upon graduation at boot camp. Proud as hell of her. TFYS.
