I think i’m gonna write a nice long letter to my dad for Father’s Day. I mean, he can be an a-hole, sure. But he’s my a-hole.

He sacrificed his body and his time to keep us fed, and I don’t know if i’ve ever properly thanked him for it. He’s flawed, but aren’t we all? He did what he did for all of us.

I’m going to. My dad and I don’t talk much. Don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things. But they are mostly things that are inconsequential in the big scheme of things.

We don’t share many hobbies. We don’t share interests.

But what we do share is a work ethic. And loving our children and working hard to provide for them a good life rich in experiences. I’ve learned a lot from him what I don’t want to do. Not that he’s a bad person in the least. He’s an honest man. He’s a square dealer. He’s generous and tries to help those down on their luck.

He just has his quirks and his faults and some of them run in the blood I guess.

But we never went hungry, and we got to do a lot of things and experience and see things many didn’t. We were never rich, but never poor.

He showed me that I want to seize the opportunities to give my kids a better life than what we had. And if I can give them that then they’ll be set.

It's been said many times, kids don't come with owners manuals. Sometimes parents make mistakes trying to figure out how it all works. Sounds like your Dad got the big parts of being a good parent right. Pass those on to your kids and it will be easier for them when they grow up.
