Coffee, chickory & pickled okra.

Watching the Panamanians & Puerto Ricans huddle around the heaters dressed in six layers of clothing.

Pineapple habenero and spicy parmesan garlic wings.

Now I'm drinking coffee. It's cold as hell, so we can't pave or place concrete. Looks like it'll be a Zelda kinda night.

I can't deal with chicory. When I was working a project in St Bernard Parish 5ish years ago, I couldn't find a drinkable cup of coffee. I eventually brought my camp stove and a pour over cone to work, and brewed coffee on the back of my truck. Though at that point, Chalmette still looked looked a war zone.

I'm from NOLA.

My fondest memory of Chalmette is stopping at a red light on Judge Perez at 3:30 in the morning on the way to Hopedale to go fishing and watching the driver of a bread truck and the driver of an Iroc Z get into a fistfight in the middle of the road because one honked when the light turned green and the other shot him the bird.

Chalmette never wasn't a war zone.

Lol. That's fricking perfect.

But it was a ghost town are Katrina. And I got the privilege of working a parish contract during a contentious Parish president election. Between politics, my mother dying, and racist old women in awhile Arabi (I don't judge them. They were old, and were a national guard base at from the worst good in America), I couldn't get away fast enough.

Luckily, jobs were scarce. And I ended up sticking around for awhile. Ended up doing a lot of drumming in parades and with Mardi Gras Indians. So my love for the city was reinvigorated.

I can't wait to be back in the region.

I can't buy snacks at Costco or Sam's. I'd get fat, fast.
