I had it done 25 years ago in Montreal because they used the Bausch and Lomb laser with Wavefront technology (custom Lasik). Typically, poor candidates are more at risk for poor results. If you understand your refraction, corneal thickness, and pupil size, then you understand what kind of candidate you are. I did not experience any of the side effects you mentioned. The vast majority of Lasik patients do not either.

Fantastic, I highly recommend. You may still need reading glasses as you age, but that's not big deal to me.

If I was a "poor" candidate, why didn't the doctor who had performed over 10k lasik procedures, tell me? When I read the contract before it was done, there was a sentence about no liability if blindness occurred and I thought it would be one in a million chances of that occurring not realizing it could mean night blindness.
Blindness does occur from cataract surgery though. I've known 2 people in the last few years that were blind in one eye after having it done.
