Ok. I think we have folks in the area. Maybe at Citgo though.

Checked on my guys at Citgo and thankfully all is good. Was just felt and loud. Same with the ones at PPG... only they may have shite themselves a little.

I have a family member that works in the plant. Said so far only minor injuries reported and all accounted for.

If that ends up being the case, it would be incredible given those pictures.

Where can I find information on shelter in place? KPLC doesn't have anything at least that I can see.

Chemical plants scare me way more than refineries. The potential energy stored via chemical reactions, temperatures, and pressures of those vessels are staggering when explained to you.

Refineries generally light on fire. Chemical plants go boom

Provided injuries are minor, how common is an explosion like this for ya'll in TX/LA?

Ie, in 5 or 10 years will anyone go "remember that one in Jan 2022" or is it more regular than that?

Hopefully true, but you never know if someone was in that area that they weren't aware of. Seems like that is so often the case with these events.

Yes

I hope not. Catastrophic failures like this one are not caused by one thing going wrong but generally a confluence or cascade of poor decisions/delayed decisions that lead to the event. Hopefully the reality of the consequences sink in and people stop it along the path as opposed to trying to implement more/new rules and processes after the fact.

Never know. There has been two decent ones (including today) in last 5 months. Prior to that, it was almost a year prior; after Laura in 2020 in September.

Man that would be great. My contacts in there haven't been able to confirm on anything, not even head count. The contractor head count round up is always a bit of a struggle.

The last big one I remember was during Laura when the chlorine plant went up.

Hopefully that's correct. I was told there may have been Turner employees on the tank.

KPLC now has an update from a plant spokesperson saying 3 injuries, all minor, and all accounted for.

Also no SIP.

Ah I forgot about the biolab one during laura. The one I was talking about was smaller and a month or so after laura.

Good info thanks.

Based on being around the site for a while this looked fairly big in my view, but I don't know how to gauge these things.
