Looking to help people any way we can.

Is there a certain place to go to that can direct us to a coordinated volunteer effort?

Any advice is appreciated. TIA.

A lot of people have just been coming down and cooking in a parking lot or helping some of the churches cook. I don’t know of anything official.

A guy, his wife, and two kids drove from Houston this morning and made about 1,000 burgers and hotdogs in a parking lot. Pretty bad arse.

You can volunteer through Operation BBQ Relief if you'd like. We will also be there on the 12th cooking at a church for people.

We are headed that way from NOLA in the morning. Plan to bring several cases of water and then just see if we can find a place to lend a hand once we get in the area.

I have 2 acres of live oak branches and leaves if you’re bored. It’s really wet so can’t use a tractor or trailer.

Gas
Ice
Tarps
Roofing nails
Chainsaws
Wheel barrows
Respirators/N95
Bug spray
Carbon monoxide detectors
Metal rakes
Work gloves
Water - doesn’t all need to be bottled. Fill any container you have with pool water for fricks sake and I guarantee you someone will be elated to have it to rinse off with and flush toilets.

Ice down a shite ton of beer and just drive around giving them out a couple at a time to people clearing their yards. By about my third shirt sweated through, I would’ve hit full sprint like a kid to an ice cream truck had someone yelled out, “arse COL BER.”

What if that guy just has a really bad speech impediment, and what he really has is an "arse-hole bear"?

Sorry, for some reason that popped into my head when I read that...lol!

Amos is 100% correct.

There are quite a few homes completely destroyed. Look for homes with a Uhaul truck out front and offer to help them move salvaged furniture.

There is so much to do you can literally just pick a residential subdivision and drive down the road and find someone to help. That I’m aware of there are no coordinated volunteer type locations. And to add we really appreciate your assistance, it means a lot to the people in our area.

Since its election season are there any local, state or federal candidates using the opportunity to do some good by actually helping out?
I would guess the number is close to zero.

I’m on call and have work this weekend, but next I really would like to drive over. My knights chapter is planning on something we just aren’t exactly sure yet.

I know one of the candidates for Ward 3 Marshall in Lake Charles has been out helping with clean up around town. Jerod Abshire.

If you are considering industrial or older residential clean up do yourself a favor and ask if there is lead or asbestos in the material that you'll be working with and if so demand to see what their plans for abatement are before you go near it.

Or don't help anyone with one of these structure types if you're going to be worry about abatement. Proper abatement can only be accomplished by EPA-certified contractors. No homeowner is going to be able to do that.
