State Police say that shortly after 6:00 pm on February 10, 2020, Louisiana State Police was requested by the Lafayette Police Department to investigate a shooting incident involving two of their officers. Detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations are investigating the incident.
Troopers say an initial investigation revealed two officers with the Lafayette Police Department were called to the scene of a disturbance at Cypress Bend Townhouses located in the 1000 block of Kaliste Saloom Road. The call was in reference to a disturbance involving a weapon.
While at the complex, troopers say a person, which Lafayette Police initially described as a man, approached the officers and a physical confrontation occurred leading to that person being shot and fatally wounded. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office.
That person's identity was not released.
An officer involved in the incident received non-life threatening injuries and was treated by medical personnel.
