its closed now and is a place called Fezzo's
mrs helens was nice cuz they had that hole in the middle of the table to throw the heads in. they had the dancing crawfish for the commercial.

Krispy Kreme is not as good as Meche's for sure, but plenty good enough to make it.
Part of KK's demise was debt. You gotta sell 10 bazillion 75 cent doughnuts to float the bank loan on that piece of property on Ambassador Caffery.

there was another good burger place on Pinhook heading to Broussard, but it moved to the N. Side near Moss Motors then went under - anyone recall?
What was around it?

I think that's it.
Anyone ever have a hamburger from Joe's in Opelousas? It's closed now.

Red Lerilles
This should give you some sense of how old I am. The first time I went to Red's as a kid, the place consisted of two racquet ball courts, the three original indoor tennis courts, a weight room, the two restrooms/locker rooms right next to the indoor tennis courts, a snack bar, and a bar upstairs near the viewing area for the tennis courts. Watching that place evolve over the years has been something else. It is, without question, the finest health club I have ever seen, anywhere.

Cool brah.

It was a stand alone when it was on Pinhook and then it was in that little strip mall across the street from Moss - Buns maybe?

also my dad power lifted at USL in the late sixties and he trained with Red
the original Red Lerille's health club was where Trophyland was on Johnston near Judice Inn

Wasted summers as a kid playing - though really just wandered around getting into trouble.

The evolution is amazing - I still go every now and then when I'm home for a holliday.

if you go early in the day, the meat patties are a lot thicker than if you go later at night.

You ought to see it now. He has an indoor boxing ring, with boxing lessons from "Bad" Chad Broussard.

I think the orignal Lafondas was over there too, and the original Strouds, before he moved to Abbeville. That was the edge of town when my mom was in college.

Nice. Right near the Church's Chicken with the walk-up window. Also in that vicinity, across from The Real Superstore was Vince's Backstage.

It was Miss Helens. That place was great years ago. It closed and Fezzos opened in it. Fezzos since moved out and they reopened Miss Helen's but it isn't the same.

Man I completely forgot about the Ice Gators. I remember for the first few season it was sold out. Towards the end there were barely 500 people, if that at the games. Had the soccer team also...wasn't it the Swampcats? I remember in 5th grade on a field trip to watch an Astros game our bus broke down at the rest stop on I10 out of Lake Charles. While waiting on another bus the Swampcats pulled up and we all got stuff signed. Didn't Lafayette have an arena football team too? The Roughnecks, maybe?
