Lafayette and other small markets are merely a stepping stone for those wanting to get into the news media business for the long term. Get your degree, start out in Lafayette for 2 years, and then move on to a bigger market and better paying job at a different station.
Some even change careers to being a public spokesperson or public information officer. Few names the come to mind that moved on from Laf: Mike Steele & Lori Meaux Steele (KLKFY->WBRZ->Livingston Parish Sheriffs Office), Tracy Wirth (LPSB), Valeri Ponsetti (LPSO). David Begnaud made the big time working for CBS News
